Barite – Stars & Stones – Jan 9th – 15th, 2016 January 10, 2017
The joy of apophyllite last week was so awesome! I loved having that feeling of being blessed right in my pocket. How were things for you? Leave a comment below and let us know! Remember to cleanse your stones for the week!
This week we are moving to a lesser known but still fairly common stone, Barite. In looking up some of it’s history and such, I found out that “Barite” is the esoteric and American spelling. If you research the mineral you will want to use “Baryte” as the Gem and Mineral Society officially accepted the name as back in the 1970’s. I love our world and its idiosyncrasies.
So, Baryte is a mineral with the chemical makeup BaSO4. It was named in 1800. The name is from Greek meaning heavy. It is unusual in that it is so heavy for its size and for being non-metallic. It can be clear to opaque. Baryte comes in colors from colorless to blue, yellow, and greens. This mineral is found in the same family as Celestite. It is very brittle and so breaks easily. According to Wikipedia, “77% of baryte worldwide is used as a weighting agent for drilling fluids in oil and gas exploration to suppress high formation pressures and prevent blowouts.” There you are.
Some little side notes I just stumbled upon. The formation sold as “Desert Rose” is either Baryte or Selenite. Blue Barite was historically used by women when nursing men after battle by placing a piece on the third eye of the man so that he would enter a state of semi-transcendence allowing him to wait until treatment could arrive.
Now on to the fun of Baryte. It is associated with the throat, third eye, and crown chakras. If you are looking to make your dreams a reality this stone increase your desire to go for your dreams and goals without restraint. Baryte aids you to take note of life’s synachronistic events & learn from them. Using this mineral during meditation helps clear and energize the upper chakras. Bringing Baryte into your auric field clears confusion, strengthens memory, helps formulate thoughts and words.
Lovely opaque Barite
Looking at the week from Divine Harmony, she is putting forward:
Monday: Growth and expansion in relationships, being open to change by approaching things differently, getting focused to get the job done- Baryte is definitely opening for the week with helping us get energized to get the job going.
Tuesday- look for karmic healing and growth in relationships and finances, much needed change in our relationships by working on our self, bridging sacred and mundane- To bridge the mundane to the sacred, our third eye and crown chakras must be opened and functioning well. Baryte is a great stone to meditate with to facilitate this.
Wednesday- using chaotic energy to change our lives positively, take risks and have fun in positiveness- Baryte is encouraging us to follow our dreams with no holds barred. Here we are being to take risks…. hmmmm… take a risk on our dreams with Baryte leading the way!
Thursday- Happy Full Moon- balancing family and career, getting the job done, finding balance with others and our independence- Back to getting the job done Baryte.

Saturday- Wake up/shake up energizes for relationships and finances- Baryte is going to help you formulate the words and thoughts that you are going to have to express to move the relationship and finances forward in the best way possible.
