Beautiful reflective marcasite on calcite

Wonderful wishes and blessings to you this last week with the holidays. How were things with the Sugilite last week? Make those breakthroughs you were striving for? As always, I ask that you cleanse and thank the stone that you have been working with.

This week is white calcite. I like to use my own pictures and this is the only piece I have on my website for sale right now. This beautiful calcite with marcasite formed on top was a rare find for me. I love how refractive this specimen is!

Calcite is one of those minerals that comes in so many colors it seems to cover every color of the rainbow. I have found beautiful specimens for my collection in clear, white, blue, green, brown, orange, yellow, pink but sadly no purple. If anyone out there has access to the elusive purple calcite that is rumored to exist, please contact me!!!! Oh…. but this week we are concentrating on white calcite.

Calcite is made of- no surprise- CaCO₃. It is actually pretty soft at a hardness of 3. Pliny the Elder from 79 AD comes up again as mentioning it under the Latin word Calx for lime. But another site suggests that this term began use as the name in the 19th century in Germany. Interesting to me is that trilobites were found that used calcite as lenses in their eyes. The things that I have stored away in this brain sometimes seem pretty factually useless, but sooooo much fun!

As this year closes out and the new year opens, the Universe is asking us to bring in the gentle healing all calcites bring with the clean freshness of the white. Starting with the blessings of the Universe through the crown chakra, we are stepping forward into this next year with the best possible beginning. I am not going to include a daily guide this week or probably next week as I want you to look within for your beginning, not be influenced by what the outside world tells you is going to happen. If you live in an area of snow, think of this calcite as the clean crispness of new snow harolding you onto the path into the new year.
